When I first felt the call to write romance (Yes I consider it my calling), I read so many articles on the internet from Christians saying romance novels and fiction of any kind were ungodly. It made me wonder if these people and I were reading the same Bible.
Love, Desire, Passion. God made them. Yes, Satan has corrupted them but their existence is because of God.
Plus, I've always viewed the Bible itself as following the style of an epic romance. The King/Prince (God/Jesus) is in love with a lowly commoner (us humans), and rescues their love interest from the villain (Satan).
Maybe I connect the two because at age 17 I fell in love with my man and my God at the same time. It's a long story and I'll share it here some time, but as a child I needed to be rescued. I called out to God and He began to whisper to me stories of my future and the man I would fall in love with. And then at 17, it all happened as promised. So to me love, God, romance and supernatural involvement are one and the same. So that's how I write.
What do you think? I'd love to hear it.
I agree. God is so romantic but our sin has distorted our view of what true romance is all about. God is the creator of it like you said and His romance is pure. He wants to brings us to that place of purity in Him. We just have to desire Him and all He has for us! May He put that desire in our hearts to want Him more than anything else! Dana
ReplyDeleteI agree Dana. And I believe that the wrong ideas about love and romance out there are obstacles to knowing God's love.
ReplyDeleteWhen I started writing I was told to strip out anything that had the female needing to be rescued. She needs to be self-reliant to be pc. Christ said He is the groom and we are His bride. He made the romantic analogy. He rescues us. But if being rescued is bad and one seeks only to be self-reliant, there is no need for God in their life.
Hollywood's idea of no such thing as lasting love is a problem too. If love doesn't last there's no search for everlasting love.
Forever with Christ is our happy ending.
No wonder it's been ages since Hollywood has made a good romantic movie. They don't know what romance is anymore.
The first video at the top, that's the song I'm writing to lately. So romantic...So God...
